Licence Application Procedure

To become qualified vocational driver using any of the driving licences categories below, you must follow a set procedure

 

 

C1

3500kgs to 7500kgs MAM

C1+E

Trailer up to 12 ton MAM

C

Any rigid up to four, six or eight wheel

C+E

Articulated or trailer up to 40 ton

D1

Minibus up to 17 seats including driver

D Any full length coach or bus
D1E Mini-Bus and Trailer
DE Coach and Trailer

 

 

1. Apply for a provisional LGV or PCV licence. You will need forms D2 and D4.

2. Make an appointment for a medical examination and take form D4 with you. The doctor will make a charge for this.

3. Fill in licence application form D2 then send all forms with your car licence to DVLA, Swansea , SA99 1BR .

4. After you have received you licence, the next stage is to arrange an assessment drive to determine how many days would be required for the practical course.

5. The theory test has to be taken and passed before booking the practical course. The theory book you need to study is called The Official Theory Book for the Drivers of Large Vehicles, which covers both LGV and PCV.

6. Once you have passed your theory test give us a ring so that we can arrange your practical course.

Medical Examinations

Medical examinations are required for most licenses. We generally use Wells Medical Centre – which has offices in Tunbridge Wells, Crawley and Hastings .

Urine samples are required for medical tests.

 

Literature

We recommend all trainees read and learn the Theory Test for Drivers of Large Vehicles. It retails at £14.99, We also hire out books (a deposit of £15 is levied and £10 refunded when the book is returned within 4 weeks.)
